5. Business Intelligence and Governance

Managing an organization is not an easy task. It involves great numbers of skills from strategic thinking, to people management, to business acumen, to performance management, to resource management, as well as general leadership abilities and passion. In addition to all that and more, leadership relies on data at all levels of the organization's operation.

The business world today changes at increasing speeds, making the need for significant reliable fresh data in real time a core requirement for success. Decisions need to be made quickly, which means they need to occur at all levels of an organization.

The new pervasive nature of decision making can make leadership even more difficult, as the decision makers have to align with the overall strategy and temporary tactics being implemented at any time. This requires decisions to be at the same time controlled through strategy and held at all levels which requires an unprecedented level of information at all levels. Relying on traditional ways to communicate information is no longer sufficient.

To succeed in today's agile world requires that data be managed in a systemic way, relying heavily on information systems for accuracy and speed. This means:

·        Having systems that help decision making through:

o   Allowing decision makers to analyze all relevant information and make sense of the choices.

o   Detecting correlations between data and events that might seem unrelated.

·        Having Systems that measure the alignment to strategy, and the impact of the decisions (or lack thereof) on the desired results.

Malek Kemmou has worked with organizations of various sizes to build systems that achieve these results, from gathering previously unavailable data, through consolidating and cleaning all gathered data, through building data analysis systems and making them securely available to various types of users and decision makers, through building alignment and governance systems that allow for performance management and strategic alignment and control.
